Iowa Star Solidifies Status After Record-Setting Season

Iowa guard Caitlin Clark is projected to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, according to a post-lottery mock draft that includes all eligible players.

The 22-year-old guard entered the 2023-24 college basketball season as the presumptive No. 1 overall pick, and she solidified her status with a record-setting season. Clark averaged 27.0 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 8.0 assists per game, leading the Hawkeyes to a 30-3 record and a berth in the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16.

Clark is hardly the first guard to go No. 1 overall in the WNBA Draft, but she might someday also set the record for the highest scoring average by a rookie. The current record is held by Diana Taurasi, who averaged 17.4 points per game for the Phoenix Mercury in 2004.

Clark's scouting report and WNBA potential will be closely watched over the next year as she prepares for the draft. The 2024 WNBA Draft will be held on Monday, April 8, 2024, at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN and the ESPN App.
